KNG 403 Plastic Adhesive Type

KNG Cyanoacrylate Adhesives (Super Glue) are single component adhesives that polymerize rapidly when pressed into a thin film between parts. The moisture adsorbed on the surface initiates the curing of adhesive. Strong bonds are developed extremely fast on a variety of materials. These properties make KNG cyanoacrylates the ideal adhesives for high speed production lines.

KNG low and medium viscosity cyanoacrylate formulations provide:
1. Superior bonding to plastic, wood and rubber materials.
2. Excellent bond strength when joining metal to plastic, or rubber to metal.
3. Inherent corrosion resistance; protects part assembly from degradation.

KNG high viscosity cyanoacrylate adhesives provide:
1. Formulations for use in vertical applications or on porous surfaces.
2. Gap filling ability up to 0.5mm.
3. Fast, 30-second cure time; speeds production rates.
4. High-strength adhesion, up to 25MPa; shear strength exceeds that of many substrate materials.

Benefits
1. One-part adhesive chemistry speeds application.
2. Join dissimilar materials, such as rubber to metal, with no compromise in bond strength.
3. Cures in seconds at room temperature; eliminates need for costly jigs or ovens; accelerates assembly rates.
4. Gap fill up to 0.5mm (.02 in.)
5. Solvent free; non flammable.
6. Superior bond strength; often exceeds that of substrate material.
7. High-temperature resistance of up to 250°C (480°F)
8. Non-blooming, low odour, improves worker comfort.
9. Impact resistant grades increase durability.

Surface Preparation
Surfaces should be clean, dry and grease-free before applying the adhesive. Use a suitable solvent (such as acetone or isopropanol) for the degreasing of surfaces. Some metals such as aluminium, copper and its alloys will benefit from light abrasion with emery cloth (or similar), to remove the oxide layer.

Directions for Use
1) Apply the adhesive sparingly to one surface (usually 1 drop is sufficient).
2) Bring the components together quickly and correctly aligned.
3) Apply sufficient pressure to ensure the adhesive spreads into a thin film.
4) Do not disturb or realign until curing is achieved, normally in a few seconds.
5) Any surplus adhesive can be removed with a suitable solvent.

Factors of Affecting Cure Speed
1. Cure Speed vs. Bond Gap
The rate of cure will depend on the bondline gap. Thin bond lines result in high cure speeds, increasing the bond gap will decrease the rate of cure.
2. Cure Speed vs. Humidity
The rate of cure will depend on the ambient relative humidity. The following graph shows the tensile strength developed with time on Buna N rubber at different levels of humidity.
3. Cure Speed vs. Substrate
The rate of cure will depend on the substrate used.
4. Cure Speed vs. Activator
Where cure speed is unacceptably long due to large gaps, applying activator to the surface will improve cure speed. However, this can reduce ultimate strength of the bond and therefore testing is recommended to confirm effect.

Shelf Life and Storage
12 months stored in the original unopened containers between +2°C and +8°C. Storage below 2 °C or greater than 8 °C can adversely affect product properties.
